GRANVILLE, North Dakota – Thanks to the partnership between Thirsty Beaver and Aggie Foundation, a $750 donation to McHenry County Food Pantry was made to help support local efforts to end hunger in our communities.

Joni Anderson, Co-Coordinator of the McHenry County Food Pantry, shares the impact of the McHenry County Food Pantry.

“We usually serve about 65 families and it’s about 120 individuals all together. Lot of them are just one person, mostly women,” Joni said. “What we do is 1 and 2 in a family get a smaller box and 3 and above get a bigger box and it’s the same way with the frozen.”

Debbie Zietz, Co-Coordinator of the McHenry County Food Pantry, expressed what it’s like to serve a small community.

“If you are interested and qualify within our guidelines, you can come on a specific day and we would get you a box of food and a box of frozen…It’s a good feeling when, at the end of the distribution, you know you have people that really, really, really, appreciating it.”

The McHenry County Food Pantry is an organization that serves the Granville, Towner, and Upham areas. They serve about 120 people through an application process, which is done by another company so they can remain impartial to who they are serving. Once a person or persons qualifies, they will receive 2 boxes of food a month, in addition to any other items the coordinators may receive from the Great Plains Food Bank including but not limited to: toothbrush kits, masks, sanitizer, and toys.

“Small town food pantries are a vital lifeline for people in need, providing essential sustenance and nourishment for those who would otherwise go without,” said Terry Peterson, Aggie Foundation Board President.

The Aggie Foundation supports a broad spectrum of local organizations in fulfilling their missions in North Dakota. In the past year, the Aggie Foundation has donated over $20,000 to needs-based food programming across North Dakota.
