Partnership between Aggie Foundation and Best Kept Secret Supports Community Groups

MINOT, North Dakota – The Aggie Foundation made a $3,000 donation to the Des Lacs Fire Department (DLFD) in an effort to provide and upgrade equipment/supplies for the organization as well as more training.

Kelly Grotte, Fire Chief of DLFD, shared why donations, like the one from the Aggie Foundation, are important to the Des Lacs Community.

“We run our budget really tight, just for the simple fact that we don’t want to hit the taxpayers as hard as we can. Every little bit counts, we try to use it as wisely as we can,” Kelly stated.

“We used that money to turn a pick-up (truck) into a firefighter truck to where guys can take it out and be useful and help put out a grass fire. We only had 2 trucks before and when we got more than 4 guys, there was nothing they could do.”

The Aggie Foundation supports a broad spectrum of local organizations in fulfilling their missions in North Dakota. They’ve donated over $36,000 in 2022 to local and rural fire departments across the state.

“Donating to local rural fire departments is such an important way of helping our communities,” said Terry Peterson, Aggie Foundation Board President. “Volunteer Fire Departments have been a focus of our donations from the start and we’re proud that our partnership with Best Kept Secret allowed us to make this impact.”

The DLFD covers 120 square miles with 15 firefighters and 2 strictly medical responders. They have the capabilities of providing vehicle extrication, vehicle accident control, and fighting grass/house fires.

The Aggie Foundation was established in 2012 by a group of friends from Velva, ND. The Foundation initially supported its mission of charitable giving via a modest, yearly scholarship provided to a Senior from Velva who excelled in Biology. They began to help raise funds for citizens in need, schools, youth sports, and local organizations or groups doing good things in Velva and the surrounding communities. Their expansion as a broad grant-provider and community partner allows them to support organizations across North Dakota working with community leaders to identify which organizations are in need of economic assistance.
