MINOT, North Dakota – The Aggie Foundation made a $3,000 donation to the Surrey Straight Shooters to use towards purchasing 3D targets, jerseys and bows for the team.
Josh Wheeler “Coach Spike,” the head coach of the Surrey Straight Shooters shared his appreciation for the donation.
“The money from the Aggie foundation made it possible for the kids to be able to practice their 3D skills and be more competitive in a new area of archery. The last few years they have only been able to shoot 3D at tournaments and weren’t able to hone the skills needed.” Coach Spike stated.
“We as a team are extremely appreciative of the opportunities [The Aggie Foundation] have made possible for us.”
The Aggie Foundation supports a broad spectrum of local organizations in fulfilling their missions in North Dakota. So far in 2023, the Aggie Foundation has donated over $65,000 to youth athletic programs across the state, thanks to their partnerships.
“Organizations that focus on providing kids with access to athletics have a huge positive impact on the development of young people. It’s no secret that physical activity and sports help children grow socially, emotionally, and physically,” said Terry Peterson, Aggie Foundation Board President.
“Supporting these organizations gives kids greater opportunities to learn invaluable life skills such as cooperation, communication, and teamwork. We’re all for that.”
Surrey Straight Shooters is a youth organization that is affiliated with the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP). From 4th to 12th grade, kids of all backgrounds can experience the thrill of archery through NASP. This program offers an equal opportunity for every child to participate regardless of age, gender, or disability. Each participant is equipped with the same bow and arrows to ensure fairness and place the emphasis solely on individual skill. The Surrey Straight Shooters started a few years ago with only 12 students and have grown to 25 students this past season. They look forward to continuing to grow the organization.
The Aggie Foundation was established in 2012 by a group of friends from Velva, ND. The Foundation initially supported its mission of charitable giving via a modest, yearly scholarship provided to a Senior from Velva who excelled in Biology. They began to help raise funds for citizens in need, schools, youth sports, and local organizations or groups doing good things in Velva and the surrounding communities. Their expansion as a broad grant-provider and community partner allows them to support organizations across North Dakota working with community leaders to identify which organizations are in need of economic assistance.
