MINOT, North Dakota – Thanks to the Aggie Foundation, a $500 donation to the Velva Cheer Squad was made in an effort to help with their fundraising efforts to buy equipment.
Chanelle Ratajczyk, Velva High School Head Coach, expressed her gratitude for the impact the donation made on their fundraising efforts.
“It means a lot to us, the girls really work hard and they don’t have a lot of resources for things. Being a smaller community, it’s hard to get the resources that bigger schools get. Any outside help is awesome, it’s greatly appreciated,” Chanelle said.
Tara Cooper, Garrison High School Head Coach, conveyed their goals for the Velva Cheer Squad.
“We have big goals for the cheer squad and we are working really hard with them. We’ve seen so much progress in the last two years and we just hope to see it grow…the girls want to compete and that’s what we are working towards,” Tara described.
This donation from the Aggie Foundation is for the Velva Cheer Squad to use as part of their fundraising efforts to purchase mats for the girls’ safety. The team would like to compete and the mats will provide them a safe way to practice stunts. Their fundraising goal is $11,000 for the mats; they need mats at both schools since they only practice together twice a week.
The Aggie Foundation supports a broad spectrum of local organizations in fulfilling their missions in North Dakota.
“After-school activities are important, as they can teach kids skills that they cannot learn in the classroom,” said Terry Peterson, Aggie Foundation Board President. “These young ladies need equipment to safely practice their skills and we are happy to be a part of contributing to this effort.”
The Velva Cheer Squad is a group of young women from the Velva and Garrison High Schools that have the desire to improve their skills and eventually compete against other schools.
Other recent donations in Velva from the Aggie Foundation include Velva Youth Baseball, Velva Community Food Pantry, Velva FFA Alumni Association, Velva Area History Museum, Velva Association of Commerce, and the Velva Sports Complex.
The Aggie Foundation was established in 2012 by a group of friends from Velva, ND. The Foundation initially supported its mission of charitable giving via a modest, yearly scholarship provided to a Senior from Velva who excelled in Biology. They began to help raise funds for citizens in need, schools, youth sports, and local organizations or groups doing good things in Velva and the surrounding communities. Their expansion as a broad grant provider and community partner allows them to support organizations across North Dakota working with community leaders to identify which organizations are in need of economic assistance.
