Partnership between Aggie Foundation and Big Dog Saloon supports local school programs in Surrey.
MINOT, North Dakota – Thanks to Big Dog Saloon, partner of the Aggie Foundation, a $5,000 donation to Surrey FFA was made in an effort to help the students with their fundraising for the year.
Graysyn Kitts, Surrey High School Ag Teacher and FFA Advisor, expressed her gratitude for the impact the donation made on their fundraising efforts.
“The biggest thing, especially in a community that doesn’t know what FFA is, is that this will help us not only allow kids to attend events and not have to worry about the cost, but also just being able to get our name out in the community,” Graysyn said.
“This money will help students lower costs to attend different conferences…A lot of the kids want to go to the National Convention next October, which is in Indianapolis. I always tell the kids ‘whether you compete or not, it’s an amazing opportunity.’ We plan to drive down with another chapter and take some agriculture tours along the way.”
The Surrey FFA was started in August 2021 and is an inter-curricular activity for Surrey High School students. They are a nationally recognized organization and currently have 15 students involved in the program. Surrey FFA provides areas of growth for students including: public speaking, agricultural skills, life skills, career areas, and more.
The Aggie Foundation supports a broad spectrum of local organizations in fulfilling their missions in North Dakota. Since partnering with Big Dog Saloon, the Aggie Foundation has donated $80,000 to the Surrey Area.
“Living in rural North Dakota, agriculture is a vital part of our communities,” said Terry Peterson, Aggie Foundation Board President. “It’s an exciting opportunity to be able to encourage the growth of the next generation of farmers.”
The Aggie Foundation was established in 2012 by a group of friends from Velva, ND. The Foundation initially supported its mission of charitable giving via a modest, yearly scholarship provided to a Senior from Velva who excelled in Biology. They began to help raise funds for citizens in need, schools, youth sports, and local organizations or groups doing good things in Velva and the surrounding communities. Their expansion as a broad grant-provider and community partner allows them to support organizations across North Dakota working with community leaders to identify which organizations are in need of economic assistance.
