MINOT, North Dakota – Thanks to the partnership between Big Dog Saloon and the Aggie Foundation, a $10,000 donation was made to Special Olympics of North Dakota (SOND) in an effort to help with their fundraising event, Dancing for Special Stars.
Nancy Hanson, President and CEO for SOND, expresses her thanks for the donation.
“We were so pleasantly surprised. We got it the night of the event, so that dance couple called us over and gave us the check and it was more than we could have ever imagined. It was such a wonderful surprise and boy those dollars will be well utilized,” Nancy said.
“Our athletes just deserve the best and they need to have those opportunities and the funds will help provide uniforms, facility rentals, bus transportation, hotel stays, meals, etc. because we do not charge any kind of fees to our athletes.”
The SOND supports over 1,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities in North Dakota and over 100 just in Minot. They provide the athletes with sports as well as resources for their mental and physical wellbeing. The organization receives all of their funding through donations and fundraising events and does not charge the athletes any fees to be part of their organization. At the Dancing for Special Stars, SOND was able to raise over $40,000 to continue providing resources for the athletes.
The Aggie Foundation supports a broad spectrum of local organizations in fulfilling their missions in North Dakota. This year, they’ve donated $12,000 to Special Olympics of North Dakota.
“The Special Olympics of North Dakota is important because it helps children and adults with intellectual disabilities participate in sporting events and competitions. This allows them to build confidence and social skills, and to feel like part of a community,” said Wade Kittelson, Aggie Foundation Board Member.
“The Aggie Foundation is proud to support the Special Olympics!”
